Don't Wait 'til I'm Dead began when I was telling John about an older cousin of mine who died when the jack supporting a car he was working on collapsed. He was vibrant and healthy, so the suddenness came as a real shock. We began talking about our mortality and John made the suggestion I write some lyrics about it. It somehow segued into musicians who never fully realized the benefits of their talent while they were alive - Robert Johnson, Buddy Holly - the list goes on. So, I thought, let's not let that happen to Robot Raven!

Don’t Wait ‘til I’m Dead
(refrain)
Don’t wait ‘til I’m dead.
See the life that I’ve led.
Don’t wait ‘til I’m dead.
Hear my music instead.
Robert Johnson played poor juke joints
all of his life.
He sang the blues but never knew
his tunes would be so right.
(refrain)
Don’t want the fame and fortune
long after I’m gone.
Why not make it now and
pay me for all of my songs?
(refrain)
Buddy Holly made it big
for just two years of his life.
It’s all it took to send rock n roll
completely out of sight.
(refrain)
Don’t want the fame and fortune
long after I’m gone.
Why not make it now and
pay me for all of my songs?
(refrain)
