There’s a legend told by campfires
Of a warrior and a maid
Warring nations and the old times
And the price two lovers paid
Two great rivers flowed between them
As the war drums haunting beat
Led the warrior to the maiden
Flaming village in defeat
Where the mighty rivers meet
Brave young warrior died in battle
Then in winter, fever came
Took the maiden and the baby
Grieving fathers shared the blame
Restless spirits roamed the mountain
Drifting down in forest streams
Come to rest in peaceful waters
As they ‘waken from their dreams
Where the mighty rivers meet
Mighty rivers deep and strong
And as the river flows
Their love goes on and on and on
There’s a legend told by firelight
Of two rivers wide and deep
Holding spirits of two lovers
And a baby fast asleep
If you go there in the moonlight
Hear the sound of splashing feet
Quiet whispers in the treetops
And the war drums haunting beat
Where the mighty rivers meet
