Hello everyone! I wrote this song and made this video tribute for my first guitar instructor after he passed away. He was a remarkable man and an inspiring musician. Enjoy!

I dedicate this CD to the late John Potter. John was my first guitar instructor and a remarkable man. I only knew John for a short time, and felt like I could have learned something from him every single day for the rest of my life. He was kind, thoughtful, and held music deep within his soul. Occasionally, John would call and say, “Hey Melissa…” and he would have a song or story to share with me. I used to love those phone calls. My favorite ‘teachable moment’ from John happened when I just couldn’t master hitting a clean ‘D’ chord and he said, “I don’t know what you’re doing there, but you’d better fix that.” I treasure the memories of our time spent together, and will always carry his vast appreciation for music and love of the guitar close to my heart.

House of Music
Always had
A gentle way about you
Never really knew you that long
Or that well
You invited me in
To your house of music
Allowed me to dance
Upon your floors
Chorus
Music was your life
Your home and
Destiny
You gave your
Gift away…
So willingly
Each new room
Held mystery and magic
Uncovering secrets
Behind every door
All of your words
Echo through my mind
Slow down and
Take your time
Chorus
Somewhere out there
Someone’s sharing a song
Playing a note or two
Thinking of you…
You sheltered me
In your house of music
Wish our days together
Weren’t already gone
Chorus
