A Mile Until Dawn by ‘Les Paul’s’ (The Paul’s)
Just like day follows night, on (A Mile Until) Dawn the idea was to start the album off as it had finished on Night (Worker) with a fast driving Rock song. On Night it was ‘Down, Down, Down’ on Dawn it was ‘There’s Nothing New Under The Sun’ and I guess we tried to include all that passes for living on the album for as we know from Ecclesiastes 1:9, really, ‘There is Nothing New Under The Sun’!
On the album you have songs of abandonment (Left Me Feeling Cold), being betrayed (You Just Kiss And Tell), all the confusion, disillusionment and deceit in today’s world (A Thousand Eyes) to sadness, missing and death (Anna Frank), of ex lovers you can’t forget (I Knew You Once), to the almost comical tongue-in-cheek humour (Don’t Kick Me When I’m Down), for even in the darkness there might be light, must be some humour. In this world we bear the consequences of unprotected sex (No Use Crying Over Spilt Milk) to the realization that no matter what we do as ‘We Were All Born To Die’. The last 2 tracks deal with a subject that is always with us, sadly always was and will always be and that is child abuse where in the song(s) the child victim, now an adult confronts his/her abuser.

A Mile Until Dawn
Take off your dirty halo
Your broken wings too
Stoke up the volcano
I got something to say to you
Your hat’s full of confetti
Red poppies on the graves
Reading the tombstone graffiti
Fading from another age
There is no time to mourn
We’ve got a mile until dawn
There’s Ravens in the cornfield
There’s gamblers on the streets
Looking for a good deal
To help them fall on their feet
Getting fat on big words
Swallowing all they say
But they’ve been misheard
On this Memorial Day
No refuge from the storm
And still a mile until dawn
Running over rooftops
A faked crash scene below
Baiting the riot cops
Who sold out long ago
Nuns seeking asylum
Truth’s in short supply
Prison inmates smiling
Wearing that old school tie
So many still to warn
Only a mile until dawn
So many still to warn
Only a mile until dawn
So many still to warn
Only a mile until dawn
