A song about Wonder Valley California. (Near Joshua Tree National Park.)

Circus of the Sun is a road song. It's literal. It's about driving east on Amboy Road, toward the Dale Gold Mine (the mother lode.) We pass the only bar, we do not stop there, which is strange, but "we have to change" we are avoiding gossip and gas-lit environments. We turn onto Hollywood Lane to visit a friend and never quite get to our destination. Are we looking for freedom? It's the reason we came here in the first place.

CIRCUS OF THE SUN
Drivin’ down that road, passed the Mother lode
It occurred to me God might be angry
In my damaged car I just passed a bar
Headed down the washboard trail, rollin’ somewhere
dot-n-da-da-da.……I wanna be free
dot-n-da-da-da.……Have a mercy on me
dot-n-da-da-da…….’Cos livin’ ain’t easy
In the afterglow I thought l’d drive real slow
So I wouldn’t lose it all on Hollywood Lane
I need to change, there’s no one left to blame
Gaslit whispers played tricks on me
dot-n-da-da-da.……I wanna be free
dot-n-da-da-da.……Have mercy on me
dot-n-da-da-da…….’Cos livin’ ain’t easy
Everything it seems has all been a dream
Good friends I’ve known, they’ve turned on me
Although I’m not the sacred poet
The desert found in me only a lover
