The guitarist in the band I was in back in 1971, Prodical Son, started playing a nice guitar syncopation Then the drummer kicked in & me & the bass player, I started blurting out some lyrics & later wrote the rest down. I still have the song recorded back then in my library of songs from the past.

Near You
Why, do you treat me this way Babe…. Tell me..tell me, tell me why.. cause I just wanna be near you
Every time I try to get near you, you turn and look the other way,
tell me, tell me, tell me…why, cause I just wanna be near you
Verse 1
You’ve played em all like puppets on a shelf,
You love em Leave em, just to amuse yourself,
The tricks you play on me each and everyday,
Are the things that should make me, just wanna a stay away
Cause
Every time I try to get near you, you turn and walk the other way, Tell me, tell me, tell me why… do you treat me this way…
Oh tell me…why, cause I just wanna be near you, oh near you, yeah
Lead Guitar plays- after lead Start 2nd verse when lead ends
Verse 2
You play the same old games like, you don’t care
Come on and enter my..for..bidden lair
The things that make me love you each and….everyday
Are the things that should make me just….stay away…
And I…need to break your spell….. and make this all go away
But I, I love you to much baby……and I…I just can make that play
Ad lib-
Why do you treat me this way
Why…why… why do you treat me this way
I just wanna be near you…
I just wanna be near you
