This is a remix of our first ever YouTube upload, Because it is There. It was produced by Rob Meeks of the UK, this version will be released via Distrokid on February 29 2024. The song tells the remarkable story of George Mallory & Sandy Irvine's crazy-brave attempt to summit Mt. Everest on June 8 1924. The evidence tends to suggest that they were successful but perished on descent, it will remain a mystery until the body of Sandy Irvine is found and the camera in his possession is analysed.

Because it is There Russell Dowsett
I have no right to leave you darling,
I failed in ’22.
I don’t know why I’m always doing
things others don’t think I can do.
But I’m gonna take your beautiful picture
And put it on top of the world.
There are no words to understand and no dream that mustn’t be dared
And I just look them in the eye – because it is there.
Chumalungma, she’s calling me,
Goddess, Mother of the Earth.
I have heard her siren song
From the moment of my birth.
Last seen going strong, second step to the roof of the world
Sandy’s tent was a tinker shop but he kept us in the English air.
And together we will touch the sky – because it is there.
They say I’m guilty, this is reckless ambition,
I’m obsessed and I don’t care
And together we will touch the sky, hollering – because it is there.
The Newspapers want to know why I want to
They want to know why I’d dare,
There are no words to understand– because it is there
Have faith, Sweet heart, we made it
But it’s too late in the day.
I’m cold and I’m exhausted,
The fading light leads my mistakes.
Save your pity for Sandy Irvine,
a young man of 22.
I was falling into your arms,
I was falling into the air.
I spoke your name to the howling wind,
because it is there
and in the darkness I see your face
and I feel the wisp of your hair,
I spoke your name to the howling wind, whispering; because it is there.
