A song reflecting on Ecclesiastes.
An epic / orchestral / cinematic / world / whatever-else-you-want-to-call-it Christian song with a middle-eastern feel.

What does man gain by all the toil
all that is done under the sun?
to go out to war- to divide the spoil?
To be rich, to be royal?
Kings rise and then they fall
Like the grass which a moment lasts
Ending in the grave like the rest of us all
alike the great and small.
Pursuing the wind of glory and fame.
The insanity; the vanity!
Always needing more to ease the pain.
This too is vain.
Look beyond the sun, beyond this realm,
Past the stars, and beyond yourself.
There’s gotta be more than this
than building our empires of sand.
That which has been is what will be,
What’s done is already done,
There is nothing new in this world to see.
Just rediscovered and refined technology.
To work just so our kids will live better?
They’ll be wise, we wish, and not foolish.
We’ll leave it all to those who come after
no advantage over the beggar.
Naked we are born; naked we will leave.
Yet not consider the things bigger
Priding ourselves on what we achieve,
but it’s vanity! ... All is vanity!
Look beyond the sun, beyond this realm,
Past the stars, and beyond yourself.
There’s gotta be more than this
than building our empires of sand.
How are we different from that of the beast?
Tearing each other down to get the crown?
If we forget our maker and our high priest,
To live is vain and rest without peace.
So what should we do with the lives we're given?
All is worthless if we lose our purpose.
To fear God and keep his commandments
and our wills abandon.
Look beyond the sun, beyond this realm,
Past the stars, and beyond yourself.
There’s gotta be more than this
than building our empires of sand!
When will we understand,
that without Jesus it’s all sand?
it’s all sand…
