LEGENDARY MUSIC The pungent aroma of seasoned wood burning in a nearby campfire surrounds me tonight as I sit alone on the front porch of the cabin watching the moon appear and disappear behind waves of dark clouds drifting silently and slowly across the dark August sky. It is the kind of night that always sets my mind to contemplating nature, the planets, the earth, and where we all fit into the greater scheme of things of which we know so little about. Listening to Veenatai's serene and sombre "bandish", I felt that somehow I was being reconnected with my soul and with the earth around me. My mind was sent spiraling back to thoughts of times of long ago here on the North American continent when only the sound of beating native drums might have been heard echoing through the clear night air telling of mystical healings or paying homage to the spirits and gods ... or perhaps it could have been the sounds that one might have heard coming from a camp somewhere deep inside the remote bowels of the Dark Continent piquing the senses of inhabitants of the wild kingdom standing motionless in tall grasses listening for sounds and signs of impending danger. Whatever the thoughts were that ran helter-skelter through my mind, the sounds were peaceful, guileless and romantic as only a true nomadic vagabond can relate to, and I knew that I was in the company here of an accomplished 'artiste' who is understandably proud of her heritage and of her classical musical achievements. Veenatai has most assuredly acquired a 'hukumat' over her music and has attained the proficiency to take the lead in bringing Hindustani classical music to new heights. Thank you Veenatai for bringing your music here to IAC for the world to hear, and welcome to my Legendary Music station.
