Many years ago when I was living in Boston, thousands of used needles washed up on shore of a town just outside Boston... The needles had come from a medical facility. It hadn't been long since public awareness of HIV and AIDS and this crisis was, as you might guess, extremely disconcerting.

I can't hear the words through this fear
I can't see your face though you're there
Truly this song cannot change what went wrong
I am well aware
Did you see it in your dreams?
Or by the way that one behaves?
Was the future in the lines of your hand, oh?
Needles in the waves
Did you ever think that this could be
part of a plague, racing through the sea?
Once thought of as remote, you can watch a country choke,
see a building bleed
Did you see it in your dreams, oh
or by the way that one behaves?
Was the future in the lines of your hand, oh?
Needles in the waves
Instrumental
Little children bathing in the blue
It's been the beginning of land's end and we knew
but the sea was to remain and I could go insane
What, oh what to do?
Did you see it in your dreams, oh
or by the way that one behaves?
Was the future in the lines of your hand, oh?
Needles in the waves
Now, did you see it in your dreams, oh
or by the way that one behaves?
Was the future in the lines of your hand
Ohhhhh, no
Ohhhhh, no
Ohhhhh, no
