while I was working at a music club, many years ago, I visited a college friend in NYC, recovering from heart surgery. I seem to remember all the details from the day, including driving into the city, and all around, but he was always on my mind, and helped inspire this "heart-y" song.

Heart of the City
Spend time in Rego Park, where Alexander's used to be,
spent time in Brooklyn, in a place they call Red Tree,
hung out in the Village, where jewelry is an art,
spent time at NYU, where they implant a heart, yeah yeah.
you can catch a baseball game, or play the horses,
hang out with movie stars, or underworld bosses,
hey is that a lady or a dude?
So Hollywood.
from the Staten Island ferry to the Empire State
from the Jersey Turnpike to the Interstate,
there's a hunger in the city, you feel it all around,
I'm not sure what I'm looking for but I'll know when it's found, yeah yeah.
you can catch a baseball game, or play the horses,
hang out with movie stars, or underworld bosses,
hey is that a lady or a dude?
get ready, here she comes.
In the heart of the city,
it's so hot in the city,
in the heart of the city,
it's so hot in the city.
