1st founding father to publicly sign the Declaration of Independence
|
Hancock
After Lexington and Concord General Gage offered pardons
To any and all who would lay down their arms,
except for Hancock and Sam Adams,
elected Prez of the Congress, a dangerous Prez to be,
branded publicly by the British a traitorous enemy.
His ol friend Sam Adams called him a flop,
A man of many contradictions, John Hancock.
First signer of the Declaration and for 6 long months
The only name publicly attached to the treasonous document,
When the Brits occupied Phili, funded the first colonial Navy,
Raises money for troop supplies with his private fortune,
big ship money.
His wife Dolly says I love riding on John’s back,
A man of many contradictions, John Hancock.
Big bold signature on the Declaration...
To this day when houses are closing buyers sign
on the dotted line,
you’re apt to hear ‘here’s my John Hancock,’
shows a nickel and dime,
also kinda courageous, kinda bright and bold,
maybe alittle outrageous, something new and old.
His enemies called him decadent, but people know what they got,
a man of many contradictions, John Hancock.
