Rediscovered four-track song about breaking out. Stop press:
Just received a 'commended' award in the UKSC/BRITs competition - not one of those things that everyone gets for entering, it means something
Keyboards, bass guitar and vocals: Brian Booth

One of my first attempts at writing using a keyboard, I re-discovered this on my hard drive, the CD being long lost. The keyboard playing is inept, the vocal far from brilliant (to say the least), and as for the recording... but I thought the lyrics were none too shabby. As always, cover versions/re-imaginings welcome

Journey
Music and lyrics: Brian Booth, copyright 2003
Isn’t it time that we both made the break
And took off for somewhere exciting?
Unfinished business – we’ll leave it behind –
The road lies before us, inviting
Stop being proper, stop playing the game
Pack a small bag and get weaving
Let’s find the world that I think we forgot
When we swapped ‘getting on’ for believing
Take the first bus anywhere
To journey’s end –
We’ll soon be there
You bring the chocolate and I’ll bring the wine
And we’re sorted for our travel rations
Fling out that mobile, sling out your watch
Let’s rediscover our passions
When did we stop doing things that were fun?
What did we get to replace them?
The world’s crying out to be fun once again
Opportunities fly, so let’s face them
Take the first train anywhere
To journey’s end –
We’ll soon be there
Let’s get some dust flying under our heels
Let’s see what life is like, out there
Let’s pick it up by the scruff of its neck
Shake it and see what falls out there
Take any turning, cross any stream
Sleep when we’re tired under warm skies
Run when we have to, walk when we choose
Share every sunset and sunrise
Take the first plane anywhere
To journey’s end –
We’ll soon be there
Isn’t it time that we both made the break
And took off for somewhere exciting?
Unfinished business – we’ll leave it behind –
The road lies before us, inviting
Stop being proper, stop playing the game
Pack a small bag and get weaving
Let’s find the world that I think we forgot
When we swapped ‘getting on’ for believing
