Valentines Day
(1984-2006)
I’m driving to your house again and I know I shouldn’t be
I couldn’t find another lie to tell you on the phone
You’re waiting in the fish net room for the prisoner to arrive
Holding the family portrait, filling in the blanks
She thinks everyday is Valentines Day
I lower my head and sigh as I slam the car door
And walk up to your porch, but I don’t ring the bell
I start back toward the car, as you open up your door
You thought you heard my footsteps, I try to smile and give you a kiss
She thinks everyday is Valentines Day
Just like her momma promised it would be that way
She thinks everyday is Valentines Day
You pull me into your house again, where I’m supposed to feel at home
All alone with the warden in the candle-lit torture room
Guess I was never much good at small talk, you put everything in my mouth
At some point I’ll lose consciousness, while you try to make the children
She thinks everyday is Valentines Day
Just like her momma promised it would be that way
She thinks everyday is Valentines Day
I’m driving to your house again and you know I’ll always be
I’ll never find the perfect lie to tell you on the phone
You’re waiting with your hope chest for the prisoner to arrive
Is it flowers or a box of candy, I try to smile and give you a kiss
She thinks everyday is Valentines Day
Just like her momma promised it would be that way
She thinks everyday is Valentines Day
Just like her momma said it would be that way
Just like her momma said it would be that way
Just like her momma said it would be that way
