A Learning Curve

I’ve just finished a song that has been 6 months in the making. It actually didn’t start off as a song at all. I was using a simple riff to work on my new program (Sonar-Cakewalk). After several failed attempts with a mixture of Windows 10 and Pro-tools, I finally gave in and bought the Sonar program. I had a large learning curve with little or no help from my “bandmates” whose studio has been unavailable for over a year now. My portable AW16g just doesn’t cut it anymore.
I’ve still got sooooo much to learn and it gets frustrating at times. I’m sure this is nothing new to most of you out there, but this piece is a major accomplishment for me. I used some filters, plug-ins, pre-set volumes and panning, etc. Programming the drums took the longest because I didn’t want them to sound “mechanical”.
I feel a large weight off my shoulder that I can finally make something descent again. I’m my own worst critic as are a lot of us perfectionists, and if I keep nit-picking, none of my stuff will ever be heard.
