The flag is usually a symbol of unity and togetherness, but not in this tale. Does the inexorable tide of time wash the beach clean to try again, or do we move on to fresh shores?

Verse 1
I built a castle in the sand
Then sat and waited for the sea;
The beach was empty save for me
And my castle in the sand.
Verse 2
The sky grew dark to frame the stars
As the moon rose over my shoulder;
The breeze, once welcome, grew colder,
And stirred her words in my hand.
Middle 8
'We tried hard to make things better;
But nothing lasts forever.
Time and tide take everything we've got -
Still I think we gave it our best shot.'
Verse 3
I dashed for pebbles, stuck on shells,
Raised a flag! Worked till the first waves swelled the moat,
Then washed away the note she wrote
And my castle in the sand.
