A Strange Tale
|
I saw a clown
Wearing a derby hat
Floating in a hot air balloon
He was staring up into the distance
Like he was flyin to the moon
He kept pullin on that wire
As he rose into the stratosphere
Ridin up that slipstream
Till he was just about to disappear
-
Well, I fell down on my knees
I stretched out both my hands
And prayed “God in heaven please”
Find that clown
A safe place to land
-
There are ghosts around the edges
mmm-hmmm
There are ghosts around the edges of the moon
There are ghosts around the edges
Nobody knows their names
Drifting through the ether
Where nothing is as it seems
-
We were riding in a railcar
Listenin to the whistle blowin
She was staring off into the distance
So I asked her where she was goin
She said,
“This ride is never ending
My destination is unknown”
I said, “I hope someday you find a place
That you can call your own”
-
Then I told her my strange story
'Bout a clown in a hot air balloon.
How he kept pullin on that wire
Like he was flyin to the moon
She laughed a little
(Or at least I thought she did
Or at least, I try to entertain)
Then she looked at me intensely
But not like I was insane
And she said,
-
"There are ghosts around the edges
Oooo-ooooo-oooo
There are ghosts around the edges of the moon
There are ghosts around the edges
Nobody knows their names
They are drifting through the ether
Where nothing is ever as it seems
There are ghosts around the edges (3x)
Nobody knows their names
You may not understand
Why it matters so much to me
But there are ghosts around the edges
God in heaven please
They are drifting in the wind
Somebody let them in
There are ghosts around the edges
Ghosts around the edges....fade out
