It sucks to be old! :)

© J. Patrick Sharpe
Lyrics and Music by J. Patrick Sharpe

I’ve got someone to blame for every one of my gray hairs
Oh yes, you know who you are
And I know that sometimes I didn’t do enough
And other times I took it too far

Back when I was young all my ducks were in a row
But now my ducks are scattered to the wind
When I look into the mirror I have to shake my head
And laugh about the shape I’m in

(CH) But I’ve learned a thing or two
I’ll share with you now
If I could be so bold
Youth is wasted on the young
And, man, it sucks to be old

I never understood why they say we’re “growing old”
When it seems that all we really do is shrink
When time and gravity become your enemies
It really makes you stop and… want to drink (and also think…but mostly drink) (CH)

(BR) Don’t misunderstand me
I still love to laugh
But it hurts me in a lot of weird places
And I love my friends and family
But I’m getting hard of hearing
And I struggle putting names to all their faces… aw good gracious

Have you noticed over the years when you go to see the doctor
They tell you everything that’s gone wrong
Now I don’t even wonder what might be going right
My laundry list of ills is getting long (CH) x
