Lyrics and Music by J. Patrick Sharpe
Black Kettle was a chieftain cunning and proud
He was assured that peace would be preserved
And there ain't hardly no one living then or now
That thinks those Cheyenne got what they deserved
(Ch) The Eagle descended upon Sand Creek and desecrated the land
Touch the creek bed now You get blood on your hands
The colonel like a raptor held the men up with his hand
He was hungry for a kill
With the stars-and-stripes behind him he peered across the land
The village lay peaceful and still (Ch)
The men who stormed the village looked like riders from hell
As dawn broke destinies were sealed
Children cried and women ran elderly as well
And they cut 'em down like wheat in a field (Ch)
Blood spilled into Sand Creek bed death came sharp and loud
In the village where tragedies occurred
And there ain't hardly no one living then or now
That thinks those Cheyenne got what they deserved (Ch) x
