The owl and the pussy cat set sail for the moon
And the ripples of their passing played a shiver ‘cross my soul
As their boat slipped away through the oily tide of time
Til the wound of their wake closed soft behind their stern
And the moon shines a little brighter
But what do we do, now they’re gone?
Descend into chaos?
Repent all our sins?
Hide under the blanket?
Raise a toast or three to absent friends?
Reverberations through the ether
Drumming in my dreams
The owl and the pussy cat set sail for the moon
No-one lives forever but some boats leave too soon
And echoes rebound across the stars
Echoes of Sweet Child and Ziggy’s guitar
Haunt us who stand here, forlorn on the shore
Where the moon on the water reveals nothing more
And as the starlight enfolds them
‘Cross the distance, I feel
Reverberations through the ether
Drumming in my dreams
