My father was a Navy Seabee and did three tours of duty in Viet Nam. He and I were discussing a friend of his named Marvin Shields who was killed in Viet Nam. The song came from the discussion about Marvin Shields.

Navy Seabee
Writers:Eric Geibel, Bruce Geibel
Building bridges
and the roads that pave the way
In the heat of battle,
he’ll never run away
Cause it has to be done,
It is always fun
Another can do day
CHORUS
He could build and he could fight
He’s just a good ole boy,
He can do things right
Standing by his friends,
Whom he’ll defend
Holding strong all night.
And there’s nothing he’d rather be...
than a Navy Seabee.
Verse
For all who follow,
who past the test of time
He gave it all,
forever holding down the line
Building with one hand,
fighting with the other
He’s on a wall with brothers.
He could build and he could fight
He’s just a good ole boy, He can do things right
Standing by his friends, whom he’ll defend
Holding strong all night.
And there’s nothing he’d rather be, than a Navy Seabee.
