This is a song recalling the days of my youth when I worked in the summers as a prospector looking for gold in Northern Ontario. At the beginning of the summer season I would take a train and be dropped off in the north woods and return in the fall. This is a song about those train rides into the north.

Northbound train, mountain high
Hear the whistle blow, echo through the trees
It's a lonely sound that fades away
What I need to tell you
Is that I'm thinking far away
I hold it close to the line
But when I reach the stop
and they pour me out of the train
That's all right, I'll do it all again
Northbound train, mountain high,
hear the whistle blow, echo through the trees now
Is a lonely sound that fades away
Club car game , sipping whiskey high,
watch the world go by, never need to worry
'till we reach the final stop.
What I need to tell you
Is that I'm thinking far away
I hold it close to the line
But when I reach the stop
and they pour me out of the train
That's all right, I'll do it all again
