It started out as just another pretty day
In the pine tree state today
Watching all of the little children at play
Mom and dad getting ready for that clam bake
But then they heard a knock at the door
From a man in uniform they had never seen before
He said mister and Mrs. McCabe
I've come to inform you that your son has passed away

Of a soldier he was and of all of the lives he saved
While proudly defending the good Ole U S.A
