SOUL MINING
A rumble incessant the roar of the diesel
Bores into my sleep
Sabotages my head
Like a spoon
Like a spoon on the crown of an egg
They’re re clearing the way
Making progress they say
One more super skyscraper
Another cloud raper
Piercing pervading invading
Jostling for space on the already long suffering skyline
A symbol embracing the high life
A tower of power
A symbol of something so finite
Yes in truth there’s a line that is ever so fine
Between right and wrong
What is weak what is strong
All hands calloused and chafed by the thongs
Tug of war deaf and dumb hear my call
In truth we are nothing but solitary miners
Miners a scratching
Miners a scraping
Etching those primitive signs on the walls
Digging and drilling
Heaving and towing
Miners exposing the lode
Merely soul mining striving to grow
Striving to know
Doggedly mining
Mining our way to our goals
Doggedly mining
Mining our way to our souls
Lining the pockets of those
Who serve only to ransack the globe
Those who seek those who search those who probe
Deep enough long enough
They will know
In truth we are nothing but solitary miners
Miners a scraping
Miners a scratching
Etching those primitive signs on the walls
Digging and drilling
Heaving and towing
Miners exposing the lode
Merely soul mining just striving to grow
Striving to know
Doggedly mining
Mining our way to our goals
Soul mining
Mining our way to our souls
Oh soul mining
