A little Norah Jones-Diana Krall vibe, perhaps? Pop, jazz, blues, soul. It's in there. Katie Kuffel, an amazing talent and songwriter par excellance sings on this song, which I wrote. Thanks, Katie!

This song was inspired by my immortal beloved. The wine metaphor came to me for a number of reasons, but one was our shared appreciation for wine, especially her. Wine is an important part of her life. The Tuscany part is fiction, though we did travel to Italia - Sicily and the Amalfi Coast - and it was a major life event for us. I also proposed to her there, but she did not accept, and that was pretty much the end for us, though she had been wanting to leave for several months, if not years before. I never wanted her to go. But she was unhappy. It didn't matter that I'd written more than 20 songs for her, and inspired by her, and many more since. You'd think someone would be touched by someone writing a song for them. But not so much. That's never been the case for any of the women I've been with. Not for me to say. Everything is about perception. She perceived I didn't love her, so it didn't matter how many songs I wrote, whether wonderful or mediocre or cheesy. When someone loves only conditionally, their ego, their fears, their hurts, control and dictate. Ours was only the second long-term relationship she'd ever had and she didn't have the best, most loving childhood. A lot of abandonment, judging, measuring and perfection. So she didn't love unconditionally. She couldn't. And she's a member of a very large club. The majority. It takes a lot of work, determination and will to find one's way back to one's core, whole, secure, loving self, if it's even there. Many never get there. And that works if your partner is more or less in the same leaky boat. But we weren't. I loved her beyond measure, beyond judging, beyond anything she did, or didn't do. For her, it was the opposite. I was measured. There were strings and conditions. I had to prove my love, again and again. And was often found lacking, in her view. Again, it's all about perception. Perception rules, no matter what you do. That's their ego-driven reality. Takes someone who is experienced and conscious to

Oo o o o O o o o o
Bitter wine is on my lips
Bitter wine is on my fingertips
There was a line
should never crossed
So many lines, and I got lost

Show me you care just a little bit more
I might be drunk but I’m not on the floor
Standing in the shadows - I’m trying not to fall
But if we don’t see the light, we’re going to lose it all
O o o o o

Ooh, our love is like bitter wine
Poured out my heart, before its time;
You know those sour grapes, on the vine,
Can sweeten so in the warm sunshine.
But all the cloudy days got piled up in endless rows,
You know those cold, dark shadows
Where nothing grows,
whoa oh oh oh whoa oh oh oh whoa - oh oh oh

Show me you care just a little bit more,
I might be drunk,
but I’m not on the floor
Standing in the shadows –
I’m trying not to fall
But if we don’t see the light,
we’re going to lose it all O o o o o

Stars in love dancing above us
Round and round, intoxicating
Your eyes to mine, we’ve got a secret
the whole world knows,
everything glows in harmony,
in Tuscany, where we both proposed,
to love and hold, forever, endlessly . . .

Bitter wine is on my lips
Bitter wine is on my fingertips
There was a line should never crossed
So many lines, and I got lost
But all the cloudy days got piled up
in endless rows
You know those cold, dark shadows
Where nothing grows
O o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o

Like Harry Nilsson, all you had to do was mention NORAH JONES and I'm running. I love Norah and Katie is pretty groovy as well! Norah is coming here to Omaha, NE in 19 days and if I don't buy my tickets tomorrow I will kick myself. If you ever come to Omaha, please inform me. I will be there and promote you to all my friends! I would like the sheet music and all the lyrics to this, please.
