This song tells the story of the old, red guitar my daddy gave me years ago. He wanted me to learn to play so I could jam with him and my brothers. The guitar was (and is still) too big for me, but I learned to play on it and keep it as a fond reminder of his love for me and for music.
Play for me a song I know, on that old red guitar from long ago. Hold those memories so dear that we've cherished through the years, sing my soul back home.
I was a little girl, when I'd sit and gaze at that old red guitar my daddy played. How the strings rang true and a voice, oh so smooth, always washed my troubles away.
The years went by and I often found myself, listening to the songs of long ago. In my memories so true, I think I always knew, I'd never find another place like home.
That old red guitar, sits in the corner now, the strings on it are worn with age. I never will forget how daddy played it then, took my cares away. x
