Holworks Music 2026

Three days of glass. The ocean stretched out like polished steel under a high-noon sun, sails hanging limp as laundry on a still line. Every prayer for a gale had gone unanswered. Then, far out on the edge where the blue turns gray, something small and dark began to move across the surface—soft footprints of wind, no bigger than a kitten’s paw.

Sailors have always known these fleeting patches. They call them cat’s paws: tiny, temporary brushes of breeze that ripple the water and vanish almost as soon as they appear. In the doldrums they are the only hope. You can’t force the wind to blow, but you can make yourself ready for the moment it decides to come. One hand on the wheel, one holding your hat, you wait for that first gentle tug.

This song is about that moment—the quiet arrival of something small that still has the power to fill a sail, break the glass into diamonds, and carry a boat (and a heart) forward. It is about faith the size of a whisper, about learning from the rings of an old oak, the flight of milkweed, and a dark patch on the water that says, “Try.”

Cat’s paw came… and it carried me.

Cat's Paw

Glass for three days, sun at high noon
Sails like laundry, no air to move
Prayed for a gale, prayed for a storm
God sent a whisper in perfect form
Way out on the edge where the blue goes gray
Something darkening, coming my way

Cat's paw, cat's paw, walking on the blue
Soft as a kitten but cutting clean through
It ain't much but it's enough to carry you
Cat's paw, coming to carry you

Doldrums taught me you can't make wind blow
You can only make ready when it wants to go
Old oak taught me rings, milkweed taught me fly
Now that little dark patch teaches me to try
One hand on the wheel, one holding my hat
Feel that first tug just like that

Cat's paw, cat's paw, walking on the blue
Barely a whisper but the whisper's true
Mama said faith is a small thing too
Cat's paw, coming to carry you

Pop — there she fills
One seam at a time
Bow starts talking
Glass breaks to diamonds in a line

Cat's paw, cat's paw, running now for me
Turning that glass back into sea
Air Push to Full Sail, that's what a little faith will do
Cat's paw came, and it's carrying me
Yeah, cat's paw came to carry me
