She’s got a knack for conversation,
She’s got a smile that captivates.
She’s got eyes that pay attention
To every word he says.

When she walks she gives the air a thrill
With every wave of her skirt.
It’s a gamble but he makes his deal,
He wants to please her.

But when he tries to touch her hand,
She draws it away.
And when he tries to move in close
To smell the perfume in her hair,
She’s got it nailed down to an art.

She looks at him when his head is turned,
She looks as he walks away.
He’s not about to turn around
Even though he feels her gaze.

What was it that offended him?
What makes him so aloof?
When will he ever acknowledge her,
Did she draw away too soon?

When she thinks her heart will stop
He simply walks away.
Such casual movement in his step
As if he didn’t care.
He’s got it nailed down to an art.

One day they finally cut the deal,
Living under the same roof.
She’s lonely for an intimacy
Of soul and heart and truth.

He busies himself with other things
He’s embarrassed by her words.
He cares for her but knows
No words to tell her.

And when he tries to hold her close
In the darkness of their bed.
She turns to face the shadows
And gazes straight ahead.
They’ve got it nailed down to an art.
