A song about that misguided relationship each of us has had

We used to stay up late laughing, about books and our folks
But you and me together was just one big joke
I’m not laughing now, I should have run
We had 8 months of fighting, in the name of fun

My friends used to tell me, that you were out of your head
But it’s hard to think clearly, when you don’t leave the bed
With my brain in my Levi’s, and a heart sick at best
I let your body talk for you, and ignored all the rest

Now I’m here on the stand with a bible in hand
And the judge wants to know the deal
I won’t waste his time, like you wasted mine
Here’s the truth on how I feel
I’m not troubled or blue, I’m just laughing at you
You know I’m smarter than the average bear
I don’t know where you’ve been, what you’re doing, who you’re seeing
And you know what, I don’t really care

You live in New York now, and you just lost your man
And the friends that you’ve made there, I can count on one hand
You’re just like I pictured, when I looked in your eyes
You brought your world down around you, cut yourself down to size

With all the times that I ignored you
And all the crazy books that you read
I’d have thought you’d realize that I’m not worth
All the space that you give me in your head

Now I’m here on the stand with a bible in hand
And the judge wants to know the deal
I won’t waste his time, like you wasted mine
Here’s the truth on how I feel
I’m not troubled or blue, I’m just laughing at you
You know I’m smarter than the average bear
I don’t know where you’ve been, what you’re doing, who you’re seeing
And you know what, I don’t really care

If I wanted to kill you, you’d already be dead
If I wanted to thrill you, you’d be here in my bed
But I’d rather just leave you, sitting right where you are
In a place nowhere near me, wishing I wasn’t so far

Now I’m here on the stand with a bible in hand
And the judge wants to know the deal
I won’t waste his time, like you wasted mine
Here’s the truth on how I feel
I’m not troubled or blue, I’m just laughing at you
You know I’m smarter than the average bear
I don’t know where you’ve been, what you’re doing, who you’re seeing
And you know what, I don’t really care
