A Virginia fourth grade SOL's song to teach about Jamestown.

We were granted charters by our king
To colonize the New World - start building
A settlement called Jamestown - & start living
To bring England wealth, keep prospering.

Build it where the ocean and river flow
So we can see the ships come and go
Good for docking and trading and defense you know
Now sit back, watch our society grow

Come to the New World and you’ll see
Economic prosperity
We’ll see all the Indians flee
And leave more money for you and for me.

Valuable items we’re sure to find
On our “money mission”, the Natives won’t mind
If we move on in – we’ll be kind
Set up trade – leave our differences behind.

The Powhatans help us all survive
Show us how to hunt and make our crop thrive
Helping our people stay alive
As more of our countrymen arrive…
Chorus

Relations with the Powhatans went downhill
But if you stand in our way, we have to kill
To keep the mighty king’s pockets filled
So out of our way, or our army will
Chorus
