Harriet Tubman was a Slave who became a prominent fugure promoting access points for slaves to find freedom. The Underground Railroad helped 10's of thousands of slaves to gain freedom. Up to 100,000 found there way to Canada.
for 20 long years been tied to a whippin' post
back scarred like a burnt oak tree
i swear one more cut from 'ol slave master's lash
gonna be the death of me

so i took my wife and little baby boy
stole away 'fore anyone could see
next thing i know'd we was runnin' so hard
by the banks of the Chickahominy

make our way to the mighty wide water
with those hounds still sniffin' our trail
squeeze into little boxes
take that ride on the Underground Rail

aint a train that rolls on a track
aint a boat or a mule
it's the train of freedom we're gonna find
human kindness is her only fuel

can't be afeared of dyin'
when you live everyday in hell
we be 20 miles gone from those killin' fields
'fore the ringin' of the warning bell

there's a fresh wind blowin' and a bright sunrise
you can smell it it's in the air
He was a tall drink a water in a very tall hat
thinkin' cruelty and injustice aint fair

it's a long long way up the mighty mississipp
gonna find that place Ontario
cast these shackles from off'n our legs
cause freedom is there i know

can't be afeared of dyin'
when you live everyday in hell
we be 20 miles gone from those killin' fields
'fore the ringin' of the warning bell x
