From the album "Born A Genius"

Shopping Cart Joe

Leaning in to an April wind
Sifting through my past
Funny how the time takes things away
One wrong turn too many
And I guess I lost the thread
I didn’t plan to end up this way

Shopping Cart Joe
That’s what they call me
That’s all they know

Slamming doors and social workers
The neighborhood disgrace
I wish I never took it out on her
Beer on tap and small cigars
Are my only friends
I got swallowed by my pride

Shopping Cart Joe
That’s what they call me
That’s all they know

If you only knew what I could do
When I was on my game
I bet you’d want to be my friend
If you only knew what I was like
When I was seventeen
I bet you’d want to be my friend

Counting off the city blocks
Adding up the dimes
Trying to keep the angry voices low
Pissing on a miracle
But hoping for a change
I’d just settle for piece of mind

Shopping Cart Joe…

Back to the Shack
one of the most compelling pieces on Born a Genius, they are all around us. and perhaps you and I could be one too. john grasps the way things really are, love the hook "shopping car joe" terrific song

voodoohead productions
This is a great song, I wish people would listen to the story and the heart of the matter behind it. Stellar songcrafting and solid lyrical content. Excellent hook on shopping cart joe. john paints a vivid picture of this homeless man, although its one its many so many who are in the situation, some their own doing, some by choice, giving up. some just dealt a bad deal, trying to hold body and soul together..

The Gatekeeper
No on gets this song I guess ,just me, you are missing something special, but no one adds it to their stations worth listening to. someone should pay attention and add this to FEATURED SONGS or what do you think

Mystery Too
it is indeed a mystery why, why homeless and destitute. is it choice some are homeless, is it through circumstances beyond their control, is it fair. it is life, life is a mystery. we can never know the answer

One of the finest song crafters around, and I have been honored to have promoted John's songs for nearly 6 years, he has such an uncanny ability to convey a message that is topical and timely. funny no one else but me has featured this song at their stations, I wish someone would. When ohn is around the pipeline, (which has been some time ago) he lays it down and tells it how it is, as in his vibrant compelling and well written music. so genuine. nothing contrived in his style. so real, down to earth..and a outstanding performer , his shows are great.
