Bruce Paine was inspired to write ‘Finchdean’ a while after experiencing a walk through farmland near Finchdean, a hamlet in Hampshire England. The focal point of the walk was the historic church St Huberts, known also as "The little church in the field", which is believed to date as far back as the 11th century. A magnificent feature of the chapel is the 14th century mural that was uncovered in 1864.
