The song was named for the pack of cigarettes that I used to buy. I always felt that it'd make a great song title and I kept it in the back of my mind until I found an appropriate usage for it. The content of the song was written during a very dark period, originally written about myself, then changed to be about more univeral topics. In Akron, Ohio, where I live, I've lost many friends to heroin addiction, including my first bassist from my first band back in High School. In addition to that, I was very disturbed by the fact that everyone on the internet is in constant argument with each other. It really highlights the endless division of people online and in person in America today. Music unites people polarized by politics, religion, whatever, and I seek to use it for just that reason. Even further - we are constantly barraged with news of great violence against people of all kinds, and left powerless to help them.

How are you feeling?
My love I am wanting
and wishing and hoping that the whole world could agree on something
Raised as children
To live for our dreams
Now surrounding us
Is an ever-revealing political scheme
You wanna tear down these borders?
Or maybe put up some walls?
In a nation divided will we stand, or will we fall?
American spirit blues
What about you?
American spirit blues
I can feel my blood, it's pumping too
I feel my veins poppin
And my heart is breakin in two
What about you? What About me?
You got these educated answers
And such astounding advice
9 outta 10 friends are strapped to their devices
I look into their eyes to understand why
We're all so addicted and lonely and wasted
I had a best friend and now he's dead
You did too..you did too
Yeah yeah yeah, you did too, you did too
I feel my heart it's a breakin in two
American Spirit Blues
I can feel the blood it's rushing too
I feel my veins popping and my heart is breaking in two
What about you?
I read about the violence
And all the souls kept in silence
But everyone I meet holds their own lock and key
I climbed the mountains
and I swam in the seas
But everyone I meet has just got to be free
American Spirit Blues
What about you?
American Spirit Blues
I feel my blood it's pumping too, I feel my veins poppin
And my heart is breaking in two
What about you?
And what about the blues?
What about the blues?
American Spirit Blues....
I just wanted to tell you...
I just wanted to tell you...
