Geronimo (1829-1909) was an Apache leader and medicine man (shaman) best known for his fearlessness in resisting anyone–Mexican or American—who attempted to remove his people from their tribal lands.
He repeatedly evaded capture and life on a reservation, and during his final escape, a full quarter of the U.S. standing army pursued him and his followers. When Geronimo was captured on September 4, 1886, he was the last Native American leader to formally surrender to the U.S. military. He spent the last 23 years of his life as a prisoner of war.
Geronimo was reluctant to fight, especially as he grew older.
He became a Christian, tho apparently lapsing into drinking and gambling...remained one.

Geronimo
Kids standing in front of the teepees, playin' hide and seek,
women kneading flour, washing clothes, old people asleep.
when soldiers swoop down/ on horses
open fire.
High time to free Geronimo,
high time to free Geronimo.
All he did was lend a hand,
help his tribe defend their land,
most of the time he was a shaman,
with herbs and chants, a medicine man.
Sure was bad medicine, what the soldiers bring.
Geronimo was reluctant to fight
but he had serious skills,
fought in the Mexican war,
his family was killed.
Spent 30 years on reservations,
displayed like a shill,
a trophy in wild west shows alongside Buffalo Bill.
time to free Geronimo,
high time to free Geronimo,
time to free Geronimo,
high time to free Geronimo.
