As I was planning to re-master this song, I learned that I had began writing this on December 10th 2019. It was just the main melody with chords, but this is usually how I write songs. It starts with a sample, an idea that goes nowhere at first, but then it comes back to me when I get inspired.
This song belongs on my album ''Hikikimori'' and it's my favorite instrumental track I have ever written. I can't really explain why. I was writing it with the idea of being unable to breathe. The anxiety that crashes your lungs, having you in a chokehold, almost like being held underwater. I have a hard time watching scenes during which the characters are underwater and struggle to breathe. I catch myself unwillingly holding my breath and struggling to breathe as well. Weird, I know, but I only recently caught myself doing this. I've always respected and feared water, because it can relax me and drown me so easily and so darn quickly.
As for the song itself, the more I listened to it, the more disatisfied I was with the production. I admit, I learn everything by myself and I'm learning something new every time I produce a song. I decided to unearth ''Underwater'' and improve the quality and re-write few parts.
