Just a little meditation on the way time controls our lives

This began life a a simple chord progression from my collaborator, Tom Rumsey. I changed and added a few chords, did some orchestration and then just free associated to get the beginning of the lyric. Tom brought in his always incredible guitar solos. And after much singing and resinging and mixing and EQing we were done.

Time
Stored up in clocks
Begins to stop
Its not longer mine
Late for dinner with the wife
Weeping at the window for that
Lost one hour of life
Running like the water down the hill
I could stop it but I just haven’t got the will
Dressed for work you make your way
Among the spawning crowd
With whom you’ll spend the day
The hours melt on instead of fly
As you insist on explanations
When no one’s asking why.
Time’s up they’re rushing for the door
You’re frozen still in time expecting something more
Pay no attention to the ticking in your ears
Seconds never matter we’re only counting years
Time may be your enemy but its something you hold dear
Guitar
Running in a river down the hill
You could dodge it but you just haven’t got the will
Time - the beating of your heart
You can never let it stop
Once you let it start
And still you find the time grows near
Dark Hours steal everything
That you once held dear
Running against time the fool believes
That faster that he runs, more the glory he receives.
