Emotional Hypothermia - Friends push you to go for it. They say it’s just for fun, no big deal—you’re good at this, you’ve dated before, this person is the perfect low-stakes test. The other person (or the situation) reassures you the water’s fine, though something in their smile never quite reaches their eyes. You jump in blind anyway.

Almost immediately the temperature drops. The early intensity freezes you: racing heart, tight chest, the sudden inability to breathe easy or see clearly. You curl inward, fighting the pull of vulnerability, attachment, and all the waves of doubt that keep telling you it would have been safer to stay single. The fading light is the loss of that first easy clarity—everything that once felt simple and sunny starts to blur.

In the middle of it, unexpected depths appear. What began as casual chemistry or mutual friends becomes something heavier and more real. The playful “dream” of a carefree romance strips away, leaving only the raw player’s truth: who this person actually is, who you are when you’re no longer performing, and how much you’re willing to fight to stay afloat.

The chorus is that first brutal shock of falling hard—panicked, submerged, lungs burning—yet still refusing to let go. By the bridge you start reframing it: maybe this cold intensity was the only thing sharp enough to make you feel fully alive again. You didn’t choose how deep or how sudden it would be, but you’re learning to breathe inside it.In the final stretch you’re still fighting the freeze, still rising through the current, still holding on. The relationship hasn’t warmed into something easy, but you’ve stopped waiting for it to. You’re floating in the dark water of it now—changed, more honest, and determined not to go under.

Cold, Cold, Cold, Water

Go ahead, take the plunge
They all say it’s just for fun
You swim so well, you know what to do
This should be a perfect test for you

Not enough light left to see it clear
Waning rays show the last of it here
Unexpected friendships, deeper than they seem
Player’s truth is all that survives the dream

Cold, cold, cold water makes me freeze in shock
I can’t breathe, can’t see, knees to chest in a cradle rock
Cold, cold, cold water pulls me under fast
Heart’s racing, lungs burning, but I’m still holding on at last

You said the water’s fine
But your smile never reached your eyes
I jumped in blind, now I’m fighting the tide
Every wave is telling me I should’ve stayed dry

Not enough light left to see it clear
Waning rays show the last of it here
Unexpected friendships, deeper than they seem
Player’s truth is all that survives the dream

Cold, cold, cold water makes me freeze in shock
I can’t breathe, can’t see, knees to chest in a cradle rock
Cold, cold, cold water pulls me under fast
Heart’s racing, lungs burning, but I’m still holding on at last

Maybe the cold was the only way to feel
Maybe the shock was the only thing that’s real
I’m still floating, still fighting the freeze
Learning how to breathe in what I didn’t choose

Cold, cold, cold water makes me freeze in shock
I can’t breathe, can’t see, knees to chest in a cradle rock
Cold, cold, cold water pulls me under fast
But I’m rising, lungs burning…
I’m still holding on at last

Cold… cold… cold water
(Still holding on)
Cold… cold… cold water
