a little cowboy poetry dedicated to champion bullrider Lane Frost (click on the song title for the rest of the story)
|
Lane Frost was a much loved and highly regarded champion bullrider, up from Oklahoma to ride competition in a Cheyenne, WY rodeo. There, he finally drew a ride on the toughest bull on the circuit, "Takin' Care of Business", a personal goal. Although Lane beat the buzzer and successfully rode for more than the required win-qualifying eight seconds, he wasn't quick enough to escape the angry bull's wrath. "Business" turned on Lane and left him dying in the rodeo mud.

CHEYENNE TO OKLAHOMA
There was a fine, young cowboy
He had a look in his eye
The bull’s gonna be a wild one
And that cowboy’s born to ride
She knew he loved to rodeo
She was tryin’ not to cry
She stayed home in Oklahoma
She never said goodbye
He remembered how he loved her
As he tried to raise his hand
He left his blood and teardrops
In the rain in old Cheyenne
And he heard those pretty voices
And he thought he saw a light
From Cheyenne to Oklahoma
He’d be comin’ home tonight
(chorus)
From Cheyenne to Oklahoma
Now he won’t be comin’ back
You know he’s got his boots on
And a feather in his hat
He’ll always love the rodeo
Now he hears the angels sing
From Cheyenne to Oklahoma
Now the cowboy’s got his wings
There was a fine, young cowboy
He had a look in his eye
The bull was Takin’ Care of Business
The cowboy’s takin’ his last ride
Now the rodeo’s gonna miss him
And the bull don’t give a damn
The cowboy’s call to glory
Took eight seconds in Cheyenne
(chorus)
