GONE.
(LIGGY and the MONSTERS)
I saw your face on a show on the T.V.
You were the hero of Saturday night
You smiled for the cameras while the world fell in love with you
And it don't seem right.
I saw the future stripped bare of possibilities
Gone like a thief in the night
Now you're gone, gone, gone - oh Darlin' you're gone gone gone.
Well it all fizzled out and we counted our blessings
And the curtains came down on our heads
And the final bells rang when the fat lady sang
Then went home to bed.
But let no-one say that our poingant display
Was anything less than it seemed.
Now you're gone, gone, gone oh Darlin' you're gone, gone gone.
Needless to say this absurd passion play packed the house every day
It was a thrill every minute the whole world was in it
But the lights went down too soon.
You were a star my dear - knew you'd go far my dear ...
But we brought the house down - we were the talk of the town
They gave us thier hearts then they sent in the clowns
Love's labours betrayed - then finale and fade - for me.
Needless to say that the parts that we played
Linger long after houselights have died.
A fake heart doth bleed to its unpredictability
But at least we tried.
Strange as it seems our theatrical schemes
Were as shot as the plot all along
Now you're gone (etc.)
... and so on and so forth.
