The general mood of people in the US strikes me as dark, bewildered and uncertain about safety due to the threat of terrorism (I’m sure that it’s worse in countries like Israel, Spain, Great Britain, Fuji, they're countless). Uncertainty, or lingering, limbo manifests itself in subtle ways that individuals aren’t even aware of. Fear and stress can be internalized so as not to pervade the day-to-day, but eventually catch up to us in other ways…that's what I was thinking about when I wrote A Sign of Life. — db
