I wrote this one a long time ago and thought it was just a fun little ditty. Still do. I wasn’t expecting to record this song for the record. Just wound up happening when I went up to Baraboo the second time. It turned out a lot better than I expected it to.

Sheila of the Worms
She had both feet underground
But she couldn’t stick around
Because sticking around
Just meant sticking out
So she felt around for space
But she felt so out-of-place
Like a feeling that
Nobody felt at all
So she dove around, head underground
To find her self some friends
She made wrong turns
And found some worms
But that’s not where our story ends
Although they couldn’t speak
Sheila made a squeak
And the worms all turned her way
And that made her smile
As they dug through many miles
And she thought that
Maybe she would stay
So she stuck around, head underground
The worms all helped her out
But those that she held dear, were filled with fear
And they began to shout
BRING SHEILA BACK, BRING SHEILA BACK
The people started saying
They said
BRING SHEILA BACK, BRING SHEILA BACK
We’ve got to bring her back to earth
BRING SHEILA BACK, BRING SHEILA BACK
The people started screaming
They yelled
BRING SHEILA BACK, BRING SHEILA BACK
We’ve got to bring her back to earth
(solo)
And when she came up for air
She found others standing there
And strange power she never felt before
So with a smile she dug back down
To the ones that she had found
The only ones that loved her from the start
Teeth full of mud, she smiled through blood
And felt the power surge
Those left up above, had known no love
But now they had known fear
And coming from below the turf she had heard:
BRING SHEILA BACK, BRING SHEILA BACK
The worms had all been crying
They cried
BRING SHEILA BACK, BRING SHEILA BACK
We’ve got to bring her back to earth
Bye-bye Sheila.
