My song Lazarus is a rather personal story about my partner of five years and her coming into a better period after a lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder. She's not fully where she wants to be yet, but it is a song about the hope that comes with therapy and medication and, hopefully, a loving boyfriend. It is a simple song with just one voice and one guitar, but I think its haunting melody and poetry carry it well. I didn't want any crazy arrangement ideas to get in the way of the message.
