I learned on my own to play the guitar at the age of 7, one year after I listened for the first time to "Can't buy me love" many years after the Beatles had already split. My father, Johann Giel, who used to play 4 different instruments and passed away at the end of March 2010, was the one who introduced me to music and Simon & Garfunkel and showed me the first 4 accords. My uncle Friedel not only bought me my first guitar when I was 6 years old but also bought me all my records and enabled me to experience the full Beatle mania tidal wave. We used to play for hours Blues, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry (Friedel on the Piano, little EM on the guitar). The most important lesson he taught me is that I can overcome every hurdle in life as long as my 6 strings are around and as long I keep a great sense of humor. The Beatles had a tremendous impact on me even though my style has nothing in common with the Beatles sound. Nevertheless, listening to the Beatles and reading about George Harrison was the other reason why I learned to play. Up to this day I have never taken lessons and tried to come up with my own style. The most important thing is loving one’s own music and being able to send messages and express emotions even without lyrics. I used to play for years with a German band called the ""Subway Riders"". After many years of simply not having the time to play I decided at the end of June 2008 to finally record all the songs which I had in my head for too long. Accordingly, I composed, recorded and mixed about 250 songs within the past 4 years. My songs are the result of the inspiration of the most wonderful people one can meet in a lifetime, and god's blessing, I am grateful.... and enlightened. During the past year I recorded all my music with a TASCAM, while using Cakewalk and Soundforge to add sounds. I am still playing a Yamaha Acoustic-Electric GuitarFGX730SCA for most of the time. At this moment I focus exclusively on studio recording. If there is any venue near New York City interested in having me, please send me a message to my email. In the interim all my music is dedicated to my loved ones, family and friends from all over the world. Johann Giel IS and always will be alive! All the best EM GIEL contact info:emgiel17@gmail.com
