Becky posted "Soldier's Call" on lyrics' forum on Songramp and I loved her moving lyric. I was so happy when Becky agreed for me to compose music to it. Here is our song. Both Becky and me are very grateful to Gemma for her beautiful singing and Billy for his amazing orchestral score, demo and playing all the orchestral instruments!

She Who Remembers
"She Who Remembers" is a song i wrote as a tribute to Mary Jemison, the "White Woman of the Genesee". Mary was only a little girl when a Seneca Indian raiding party attacked her family home far out in the western wilderness...which was Pennsylvania in 1756. Her family was killed and she was taken captive to a Seneca outpost in Ohio. Years went by and she integrated into the tribe, marrying a Deleware Indian and , with her 6 month old papoose strapped to her back, walked to Genesee country here in western New York State. Mary lived to age 92 and remained with the Senecas her whoile life. She saw it all...the French at war with the British, the land hungry colonists, the American Revolution, and the conquest of her tribe and their subsequent relocation to reservations. She spent her whole life trying to help all sides to make peace. Mary was "She Who Remembers"

A true story song about an 8 year old child that has post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from being brutally physically and mentally abused. When he runs away the shock of his ordeal causes him to walk the streets of Los Angeles in a trance like state. Each time he comes out of the trance he finds himself in a strange neighborhood many miles away from his own. Over half a century ago I was the child.

My song Lazarus is a rather personal story about my partner of five years and her coming into a better period after a lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder. She's not fully where she wants to be yet, but it is a song about the hope that comes with therapy and medication and, hopefully, a loving boyfriend. It is a simple song with just one voice and one guitar, but I think its haunting melody and poetry carry it well. I didn't want any crazy arrangement ideas to get in the way of the message.

I wrote this song about the terror of going on stage to sing a song in public for the first time and developed the theme. I didn't write my first song till I was 50 years old and it was very daunting as everyone else in the songwriting group I was in was very young . They were all so encouraging though and despite my awful first efforts I persevered and eventually recorded a whole album and am now on a second one! I still get stage fright but not to the extent of before but I do enjoy recording and writing the best. Like the song says though, we need to take a "leap of faith through the fiery hoop" and live up to our potential to do things and live the dream and then anything's possible.

This one was conceived as a courtship in 3 parts. I think that the melody and the chord changes are some of the prettiest that I’ve ever come up with. I know that this is also a particular favorite of Dave (the HoP drummer and piano player). I ended it on a 7 chord because, well, we never really ever do "get there", do we? But it's the journey and the person with whom we share that journey.
