John Myles
Twilight Blues
This makes me smile. But in a very different way. I smile in appreciation of one man - one guitar - one song - and truth, beauty, humanity and a message that screams out to be heard. John is a man of utter artisitic integrity. We need a billion more like him.

"IN ONE EAR AND OUT THE OTHER"
BLOODY HELL!!! As we say here in merry olde England. This ROCKS !!! Absolutely fantastic. This initiates a smile that starts at the soles of my feet, moves upwards through my spine and blows out the top of my head.
Ooooh Baby.

Gina French
Hard Way
This makes me smile - because I can really identify with the theme and the message. I think a lot of us do. So it's a sad smile of recognition - of Gina's wonderful observation and perception. And I like Gina.

Brian Booth
Piccadilly Rain
Why should an essentially sad song make me smile?
It is a smile of appreciation for what,in my humble opinion is a very intelligent song. I think Brian cleverly uses the sitar effects to evoke the atmosphere of his youth - St.Pepper and the whole spirit of an earlier era. Couple this with the rainy Manchester memories of a teenager facing what most us recognise and remember from our early romantic entanglements and there we have it.
A wonderful example of English personal songwriting.

Steve Ison
Funny Hair Song
No station is complete without something from Steve.Big grin from this. Although I'm going to get a bit artsy fartsy here - song about funny hair but actually a bloody clever piece of songwriting. Sophisticated refences bouncing around - smart chords changes, snappy piano riffs -the more you listen the more you discover the layers that Steve has interlaced to create this. He once kindly described something of mine as loungelicious.
I'm delighted to return the favour.

Steve April
Lou Daybreak
This is the third track from Steve that I've included on this station - and with good reason - everything he does makes me smile - there is something utterly unique about his songs - I can't quite figure out what that is - and a good thing too. Because when you can predict what is going to happen in a song or what every constituent is - then it's most likely the usual generic crap that makes the music industry so much richer and our world so much poorer.
Thankyou Steve - from everyone who still has a soul.

Amelia
Wonderful original subject for a song. I love the way Steve tackles the song - nice Crybaby guitars - kinda retro feel to the instruments - and Steve's soft plaintive vocals that always remind me a little of Neil Young.
Big smile of appreciation from me for this one.
