some tips and
hints by Verity
Once you get your music uploaded at IndieMusicPeople, one of the first things you'll notice
is that you get a message (in your SHOUT box) from IndieMusicPeople telling you that a
certain Station has added one of your songs. Click on IndieMusicPeople and
you'll see your masterpiece in the Station list, sometimes with glowing
comments attached (While you're there, maybe leave a thank you with your URL in
the link box).
Then the
day will come when you think "I'd like to start a Station, looks like fun!"
Once you've clicked on
"Create New Station" in your administration area, you'll need to make some
decisions. Do you want this to be a playlist of :-
* songs you particularly
like....Titles like 'Favourites' 'Picks' 'Choices'
* songs that are geared to a specific genre 'Rock' 'Pop' 'Hip
Hop'
* songs that focus on an instrument or production style
'Guitar' 'Lo fi' 'Synth'
* songs that have a particular theme 'War'
'Earth/conservation' Male/Female'
* songs that have a quirky connection 'The titles' 'The
location'
* songs that you want to review in depth - artists love these
Stations and will often use your quotes as part of their promotion.
You may just want to add 'New
songs/singers' or discover obscure old gems from this vast site
You may want to be
interactive - You can ask for participation, requests etc ...OR... people have
been known to have 'parties' on their message boards with huge often funny
threads.
INTERESTED? So let's do
it!
Think up a name for your
Station - add a brief description and perhaps a picture and some HTML, flashy
banners etc.
Then start to find songs.
It's so easy just click on the 'add' cross + and choose a Station from your
list (if you have more than one) Fill in comments if you want..and
that's it. Keep going back to your Station and you'll find
comments, and links start to appear. You may even find your Station
in the Top Stations list and it will also be in the Station charts.
You can be totally anonymous
or you can be really up front and add your own songs.
There is so much more you can
do which I can't cover here (Like producing your own AUDIO links and intros DJ
style) so PLEASE ask me if you need help (or inspiration)
Happy Station building!
Cheers, Verity
