J Goodin, born of travelling sign painters, currently resides in a commune somwhere on Staten Island. Word has it that he is currently making the journey to his home state of Texas to record his second album with long time friend and producer, Tim Britton.
This is from a Dead Angel review of 'Axes and Axioms' in 2002:
Guitarist / singer J. Goodin is a one-man band whose playing style encompasses so many genres and textures, many deliberately jarring, that it's hard to get a handle on him. This is a good thing. Most of the time he embraces this thunderous guitar thunder that pleases me mightily, but he also dabbles in music concrete, strange experiments in EQ, and quizzical moments of pure weirdness. Heavy and crunch-laden on one song then full-blown country on the next, with bursts of pop and other styles like clockwork, there's a wide variety of sounds happening here.
Although we disagree with his grammer, we wholeheartedly agree about the thunderous guitar thunder.
Grin Like a Dog
A constantly changing song, moving through several sections with a morphing style. The etherial guitar lends a supernatural element on the backward-looking narrator.
A coaxing un-ballad for those whom we find to need the most help moving forward.
Morning Ate My Moon
The most soothing, acoustic track from 2002's Axes and Axioms is a soft serenade to sunrise, with a rough and sad style, well associated with J's songwriting.
Greasepaint is classification nightmare. You try to tell what genre it is. Regardless, it's a catchy acoustic ditty.
The only love song that J Goodin has ever written.
A instrumental love song, with guest guitarist Russell Huie.
