Marty Brodell is a musician and songwriter from Saratoga Springs, New York (the home of the world famous race track). Marty started his musical journey at 8 years old on the piano. He wrote his first song at 10 years old. He has performed in various rock and acoustic outfits and has even soloed for a while playing cafes and open mic nights. Marty's musical influences range from Classic Rock to Jazz to Fusion and beyond.
A sort of dark song about how everything is a crisis these days in order to elicit an emotional rather than rational response to a societal problem. And, as we continually see, we just sort of jump from one "crisis" to the next and most of them just pass on into oblivion. And the ones that really need attention degenerate into national shouting matches. But, it's good classic rock with a thumping backbeat.
Hide and Seek
A classic rock ballad based on a scene from a television show (see Song Story).
A Story Untold
A bit of R&B influenced classic rock.
An instrumental piece named after the most famous national park in the USA. I had the great pleasure of visiting there in October, 2018 and was completely awed. This piece features me playing my 2000 Fender MIM Jazz Bass which was salvaged from a guitar chain store and restored last winter by me. I promised D'addario Strings I would mention them and this bass has D'addario flat wound Chromes on it. Marvelous sound and feel.
Could it Be
This is a song about searching for the truth and how difficult that can be in today's social media and instant news environment. A little bit of Deep Purple influence here with the instrumentation.
Lucky on the Wheel
A simple tune done in a country rock style inspired by an advertisement I saw for a casino that featured people standing around a roulette wheel.
Look in to the Mirror
This is a song about confronting emotional fear. Not actual fear like a soldier or a firefighter might experience but emotional, sometimes irrational fear. How much would you lose if you give in to that fear? What would your life be like then?
There's always been great songs about cars. From "Pink Cadillac" to "Little Deuce Coupe" to "Little GTO" to "Drive My Car" and of course who could not forget "Hot Rod Lincoln"! So here's my contribution to that great American tradition of car songs..."Blue Malibu".
True Love Spot
Everytime we go on vacation we always wonder if this is a place we'd love to live. Especially if we go to a warm climate with a beach! Happy song done in a blues shuffle.
She Could Be Danger
This is a song about the "femme fatale" of literature and TV. Sometimes they're good like Emma Peel of the Avengers. Sometimes they're bad like some of the Bond girls or the poisoners of the 1800's. Sometimes they are in between like Alice Morgan of the BBC series "Luther". Someone commented to me that this tune was kind of sexist but my inner ear easily hears Lady Gaga doing this as "He Could be Danger".
Big Fat Head
Egos, money and lack of respect and manners always seem to go together. Why do those people think they are so much better than the rest of us huh?
Paws on the Pillow
An instrumental piece featuring guitar and electric piano. A touch of jazz and a touch of rock and maybe a line or 2 of classical influence.
