Great site, great passion. This is such an important issue. The general media try to deflect from the issues at hand by using language such as 'extremist' groups. It is not extreme for an individual to love animals. Animals are not defenceless against the other animals, but...they are utterly defenceless against humans; which is why they need love, care and utmost protection.

7/31/2009 4:50:50 PM

Hi Maria, really good to hear from you. I've twice deleted my myspace page as I got very annoyed over a couple of things they did. I probably shouldn't have been so rash as I lost all my friends of course, I got some of them back the first time but didn't like to go back second as you'd all think 1. I was a nut and 2. Not again!
Isn't this a great place and you've certainly have taken it by storm, which is quite right and proper of course. Yes, I'm still writing and recording in my own small way, would like to do some more performing but without "make up" the voice is even more off putting!
Take it easy and I hope you and Paul are enjoying this late "summer" we're having too.

Bye for now

For Alfy

Maria Daines

A little friend on tiny feet. One that I was glad to meet

A cheeky face and glowing eyes. A rescue dog, his mother's pride

I knew you'd lived a happy life. Far from early pain and strife

So long ago, at one month old, Moonflower took you into the fold.

She nurtured you with caring hands, including you in all her plans

You saw the wounded as they came. One by one, lost, stranded, lame -

you gave them courage, shared your space. Your toys and food, your quiet place.

You watched them heal with love and care knowing you had once been there.

And through it all your days were bright, with kindness, fun and peaceful nights

You felt the warmth of family ties, and knew your trust was recognised.

Days rolled past to golden years - Tonight our smiles turn to tears

For you have journeyed to the rainbow's end,

and over the bridge you will meet old friends

You will know who needs a gentle paw, for you have been at danger's door

You know how it feels when the world seems blue because you rescued the lonely too

A dog in a million, a warrior soul - If only time didn't take its toll

You will never be forgotten, your heart lives on.

For those you loved, a special bond.

Sleep safe little Alfy, a blessing of joy.

And know that your spirit is with us
sweet boy.

A little update bloggy thingy from Maria -

I'm a songwriter & band frontwoman so I guess that makes me a sing-writer! I write the lyrics & melodies for our music & Paul Killington, a great guitarist & arranger produces our work & plays all the instruments at the recording stage. When playing live we're joined by Bob & Dave. As a 4 piece we play rock n' blues & this gives us a chance to let rip with our heavier tracks, for venues wanting to book us we're not quiet so background music is out. As for songwriting we create in all styles & genres, just whatever takes us on the journey & gets the emotion out. I also write poetry & spoken word monologues/comedy which Paul sometimes sets to music, several written pieces have been published in anthologies & I'd like to release a personal collection in the near future. Paul & I have also written a memoir of life on the road & we're planning to publish when I can find the time to type the story into a word file. We find the only downside to being creative is how to switch off, there's never enough hours in a day, we have boxes of demos waiting to set to tape, reams of lyrics piled high & songs already recorded need work to keep them out there & available. I think most indie musicians would agree it's one helluva uphill struggle. So, we keep at it & we enjoy every minute, the thing we don't enjoy is the daily battle to be 'normal', that's something we've never managed to achieve & the yearning to deposit ourselves on a desert island with instruments & food is a regular discussion, a dream of course...

5/17/2007 6:19:35 PM

Really taken with the new song, both production and lyrically!

You guys set the benchmark here!

Bryan Anthony

2/25/2007 2:29:17 AM

Hi to Paul:

It's good to hear from the man behind the great sounds I've been listening to so may times, and thanks for the comments. In actual fact, there is a person behind wife Minan and I stand behind her as well...or better put...side by side. I'm sure it's the same with you two. That's what makes the music so great.

As for hardship and adversity...well, that's something many of us seem ot go through, whether we want to or not. I don't consider myself any stronger than the next man. I am, in fact, surprised at all the stuff I've worked through. There were times when I thought, "GOD HELP ME"...I'm not gonna make it. I think a lot of stuff you go through can and does affect you big time, and if you're a musician, songwriter, it seems to come out in the songs you write.

There's a heck of a lot of life in the songs the two of you are writing...even the ones written for our furry friends. You don't write songs like that, or perform like that unless it is coming from somewhere, honestly, not contrived.

I know the two of you are going to make it. Sooner or later, the world out there is bound to recognize what many of us have already come to recognize ourselves, after listening to songs like MERCY, MONKEY IN A CAGE, YOU DON'T LOVE ME, THE BALLAD OF MARY ANN BONES, DON'T GO INTO THE BONEYARD and others...impeccable performances, well structured, well played, well produced, but most important of all, they are all filled with that raw emotion you hardly get to see in the mainstream these days.

So, all the best to the two of you and if ever you make your way from that shore to this shore, to perform in our neck of the woods, we'd be there, for sure, to enjoy the show. Already enjoying it via those wonderful recordings mentioned above.

Once again, thanks for the kind words and good to hear from you, in your own words, Paul!
